Apple supplier Corning chooses Chennai over TS

It has not even been a month since the Congress government came into power in Telangana, and already the news of Apple supplier Corning Inc., one of the world’s leaders in material sciences, has moved its investment plans to Tamil Nadu. It is reported that Apple glass manufacturing company Corning Inc.

has decided to set up its Rs 1,000 crore manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu instead of Telangana. Earlier this year, in September, the former IT minister of Telangana, KT Rama Rao, met the officials and representatives of Corning Inc. The possibilities of setting up industry in Telangana state were discussed, and the former IT minister made an official announcement on X that the company is setting up its unit in Telangana with an investment size of Rs 934 crore. Now, it is said that Corning Inc. has chosen Tamil Nadu.

It is known that Foxconn has expressed its interest in setting up an industry in Telangana. With Corning taking a step back, it is not sure whether Foxconn will now set up its unit in TS or not and if it will also eye Tamil Nadu or another state. While this is a concern, the newly formed government must take all details from the former government, and the new IT department officials must pay special attention to making contacts with new industries. In this regard, Minister Sridhar Babu has conducted a review meeting with the IT officials of the state.
