Major victory against ace builder

RegNews, Delhi: The residents of local Emerald Court responded, commenting on the SC Bench directing developer the Supertech to demolish the twin towers in Noida, saying it as “victory triumphs at last.” As the court ordered demolition of the twin towers on the Emerald Court premises, they heaved a big sigh of relief with their legal battle coming to a logical end. In fact, the Supertech firm was supposed to build only 660 flats in 15 towers. Work on two towers commenced in 2009. Suspecting something fishy, the local residents questioned the firm about violations, but the firm managed to convince them by saying that it was all part of the project.

Examining the plan, it was revealed that two towers were being built in violation of the rules. The locals felt that the builder is trying to cheat them, In 2012, some residents moved the Allahabad High Court against the builder. The High Court delivered judgment after two years asking the builder to demolish the two towers in Noida. The Supertech firm challenged the verdict in Supreme Court, which upheld the High Court judgment to the delight of the locals.

Commenting on the verdict, a 74-year-old local woman Sarma described it as justice prevailed at last. The judgement strengthened the confidence of the locals in the SC. She said that the locals consulted many people against the most powerful builder. The court verdict is the result of long legal battles waged by them.

Another resident of Emerald Court Rachana Jain called it as a great victory all those who opposed the illegal activity. Rachana Jain said that her husband fought against the builder, but died last year due to Covid-19.

The Supreme Court verdict kicked off a huge debate across the country. The latest orders of the SC made it clear to the developers and builders that the court would not tolerate violation of rules however big a builder or a developer may be. The colony welfare associations hailed the judgement. In the light of the judgment, no builder or developer would ever try to violate the rules to build apartments.
