Builder hides in flat to avoid police

The economic offences wing of the Mumbai police encountered difficulties in serving notice on a builder, who hid himself in the flat next to the flat he is living. He posed problems to the police who reached his door-step to serve notice on him. The builder did not come out of the flat in which he is hiding. The police used the services of a locksmith to forcibly open the flat where the builder is taking shelter. A complaint was registered against the builder Dhruv, 55, who is the director of Orbit Ventures and Developers, and three others alleged that they had cheated her to the tune of Rs 11.76 crore.

The economic offences wing of the Mumbai police is probing the case. As part of the probe, a team of police personnel reached his house and knocked at the door but the builder did not respond on learning about it, Dhruv hid himself in an adjacent flat. The police had to wait for two hours before the locksmith intervening to forcibly open the doors. As he emerged out of the flat where he is taking shelter, the police served notice on him and asked him to appear before the investigation officer.

To finance their business operations, he and others borrowed Rs 11.76 crore, but they are not returning the money in spite of the woman asking them to return her money. They promised to give her a flat instead of the money and gave an allotment letter to her. She alleged that the foursome had duped her not giving her the promised flat. Therefore, she approached the police.
